The Pink Lagoon directed by Juan Arce and Francisco Gallo took the Best of Fest Audience Choice – Best Film Award at the 31st Annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival (SLIFF). The film stars actress Monica Arce as Marian, a fiercely independent, twentysomething young woman with Down’s syndrome who loves ballet, art, and living her best life.

The film starring Javier Cámara, Nicolás Reyes Cano, Juan Pablo Urrego, Patricia Tamayo, Maria Tereza Barreto, and Laura Londoño, is based on the true story of Héctor Abad Gómez, a Colombian university professor who fought against oppression and social equality, and the circumstances of his death by Colombian paramilitaries.
The 2021 AFI Latin American Film Festival set for September 23 – October 13 at the historic AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD will open with Mexican director Alonso Ruizpalacios’ (Güeros, Museo) Berlin-debuted A Cop Movie, an immersive, on-the-job and behind-the-scenes look at the life of two Mexico City cops, which confirms Ruizpalacios’ genius for creating unexpected, genre-bending cinema and won the Berlinale’s Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution earlier this year.
