
The Alliance of Women Film Journalists announced its 2020 AWFJ EDA winners, with Nomadland winning six awards including Best Film, Best Actress for Frances McDormand and Best Director for Chloé Zhao.

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists announced the nominees for the 2020 EDA Awards, with Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland this year’s most nominated film with nine EDA nominations including Best Film, Best Director, Best Woman Director, Best Actress, Grand Dame Award, and Most Daring Performance Award for Frances McDormand.

“Nomadland” took top honors at the 2020 Indiana Film Journalists Association awards, winning four prizes including Best Picture, Best Actress for Frances McDormand and Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director for Chloé Zhao.

British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) announced the long list for the 2020 Best British Short Film award. The 16 films listed below were chosen from over 300 entries. BIFA also announced this year’s long list in its highly-competitive Best International Independent Film category, and Best Documentary category, celebrating the finest independent films of the year.

Forty-one films and series are nominated for this year for the 30th Annual IFP Gotham Awards, considered one of the leading awards for independent film and signaling the kick-off to the film awards season. Best Feature nominations went to The Assistant, First Cow, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Nomadland, and Relic, becoming the first time all of the best feature nominees are directed by women. In total, eleven competitive awards will be presented to independent features and series.

Samuel L. Jackson, Tessa Thompson and Steven Yeun will be honored at the upcoming 23rd annual SCAD Savannah Film Festival, taking place as a virtual experience October 24 – October 31. The festival will honor Samuel L. Jackson with the Legend of Cinema Award, Tessa Thompson (Sylvie’s Love) with the Vanguard Award and Steven Yeun (Minari) with the Discovery Award.

The Iranian film There Is No Evil by Mohammad Rasoulof won the top prize, the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film also won the Guild Film Prize. Director Mohammad Rasoulof is banned from leaving Iran and was unable to accept the Golden Bear in person.
