
BAFTA announced the full set of longlists for 24 categories including Best Film, Cinematography, Casting, Documentary, Film Not in the English Language, the four performance categories for the 2023 EE BAFTA Film Awards.

Sara Dosa’s Fire of Love and Alex Pritz’ The Territory lead the nominees for the 16th Cinema Eye Honors Annual Awards celebrating outstanding artistry and craft in nonfiction filmmaking, with seven nominations each, tying the record for most Cinema Eye nominations in a single year. Shaunak Sen’s Cannes-winning feature, All That Breathes, received six nominations, and Laura Poitras’ All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, winner of the Golden Lion at Venice, received four.

Showtime debuted an official trailer for Nothing Compares, the award-winning documentary charting Sinéad OʼConnorʼs phenomenal rise to worldwide fame and examines how she used her voice at the height of her stardom, before her iconoclastic personality led to her exile from the pop mainstream.

Rapper Machine Gun Kelly presents the drama Taurus, in which he himself embodies a music star, and executive producer Roland Emmerich’s team will present the world premiere of the modern Mozart film adaptation The Magic Flute in the new “Sounds” section of the 18th Zurich Film Festival (Sept 22 – Oct 2) screening music films and events with musicians.

The Birmingham-based Sidewalk Film Festival announced the complete lineup for the 24th edition of the film festival taking place August 22-28.

For its 75th Anniversary edition, Edinburgh International Film Festival announced the program of 87 new feature films structured across 3 Galas, 5 themed strands, 1 Big Screen Presentation and 10 films in competition as part of the new The Powell & Pressburger Award for Best Feature Film. Edinburgh International Film Festival runs from August 12th to 20th, 2022.

Showtime acquired Nothing Compares directed by Kathryn Ferguson (Taking the Waters, Space to Be), the documentary charting Sinéad O’Connor’s phenomenal rise to worldwide fame and examines how she used her voice at the height of her stardom before her iconoclastic personality led to her exile from the pop mainstream. Focusing on Sinéad’s prophetic words and deeds from 1987 to 1993, the film presents an authored, richly cinematic portrait of this fearless trailblazer through a contemporary feminist lens.

The 2022 Sundance Film Festival set to take place January 20–30, 2022, announced the films selected in the Feature Film, Indie Episodic, and New Frontier categories. The full slate of works announced includes 82 feature-length films representing 28 countries, and 39 of 92 (42%) feature film directors are first-time feature filmmakers.
