
Ira Sachs’ Peter Hujar’s Day starring Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall, leads the nominations for the 41st annual edition of the Film Independent Spirit Awards with five nominations including Best Feature.

Kneecap, Rich Peppiat’s comedy following the west Belfast hip-hop trio won the award for Best British Independent Film at the 2024 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA). The film won seven BIFAs in total, including Best Debut Screenwriter for Peppiatt and Best Joint Lead for trio Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin and JJ Ó Dochartaigh along with the four craft awards.

The film follows a young Zambian woman who stumbles upon her uncle’s body, uncovering family secrets and lies as funeral preparations unfold.

Memoir of a Snail, Oscar-winning director Adam Elliot’s stopmotion tale of separated twins in 1970s Australia is the winner of the Best Film Award in Official Competition at the 68th BFI London Film Festival.

On Becoming a Guinea Fowl, the second directorial work by Rungano Nyoni won the Golden Eye award in the Feature Film Competition at the 20th Zurich Film Festival. Black Box Diaries by Shiori Itō won he Golden Eye award in the Documentary Competition along with Audience Award.
