    Princess of the Row by award winning filmmaker Maximilian Carlson will open the eighth edition of the Toronto Black Film Festival – TBFF on Wednesday, February 12 – 7PM at Isabel Bader Theatre. In 2019, Princess of the Row won 19 awards at 20 film festivals: 4 Audience Choice, 5 Best Feature, 6 Best Actress (Tayler Buck), 3 Best Actor (Edi Gathegi) and 1 Best Cinematography (Maz Makhani). The festival will close with the documentary Restless directed by Bernard Attal.

    After screening screened over 300 films from 63 countries, the 28th Annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival (SLIFF), concluded with the closing-night awards presentation. “We Believe in Dinosaurs” directed by Clayton Brown & Monica Long Ross won the award for Best Documentary Feature and “Sorry We Missed You” directed by Ken Loach won the award for Best Narrative Feature. “Just Mercy” directed by Destin Daniel Cretton was voted Best Film by the audience.

    The 2019 Naples International Film Festival announced the filmmaker award winners during the Closing Night Awards Ceremony with the jury prize for Best Narrative Feature (and a cash prize of $7,500) going to Amber McGinnis’ INTERNATIONAL FALLS, and the jury prize for Best Documentary Feature (and $7,500) given to Bill Gallagher’s RUNNER. Gallagher’s film RUNNER also took NIFF’s Audience Award for Documentary Feature (and an additional $2,000), while R.J. Daniel Hanna’s MISS VIRGINIA was the Audience Choice for Narrative Feature (also receiving $2,000).
