Nomadland directed by Chloé Zhao was named Best Picture of 2020 by Online Film Critics Society (OFCS), which is comprised of nearly 300 film critics from around the world. Nomadland also won for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing for Chloé Zhao; Best Actress for Frances McDormand and Best Cinematographer for Joshua James Richards.
Never Rarely Sometimes Always leads the nominations for the 2021 Film Independent Spirit Awards with 7 nominations including Best Feature, Best Director for Eliza Hittman and Best Female Lead for Sidney Flanigan. Minari was close behind with 6 nominations including Best Feature, Best Director for Lee Isaac Chung and Best Male Lead for Steven Yeun. Other Best Feature nominees included First Cow, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Nomadland.
“Nomadland” by Chloé Zao and “Promising Young Woman” by Emerald Fennell tied for the top honor of Best Film at the Kansas City Film Critics Circle’s James Loutzenhiser Awards. “Nomadland” also received awards in the Best Director and Adapted Screenplay categories, while “Promising Young Woman” won Best Actress and Original Screenplay. They were the only films to win multiple awards.

The Philadelphia Film Critics Circle announced the winners of the fourth annual year-end awards, and the choice for Best Film of 2020 was director George C. Wolfe’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Nomadland was the choice for Best Director for Chloe Zhao and Best Cinematography for Joshua James Richards. Other awards including Best Foreign Film went to Jumbo directed by Zoé Wittock, and Best Documentary went to Time, directed by Garrett Bradley.
Carey Mulligan will be honored with the International Star Award at the the Palm Springs International Film Awards for her performance in Promising Young Woman.

Rose Glass’ dramatic horror Saint Maud leads the nominations for the 41st annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards with 8 nominations, including Film, Director, Screenwriter, Actress (Morfydd Clark) and Supporting Actress (Jennifer Ehle). In addition, the film is nominated for British/Irish Film of the Year, and Clark is nominated for British/Irish Actress, a body-of-work award that includes her appearance in Eternal Beauty.
The Music City Film Critics’ Association comprised of more than 30 professional film critics working in or near Nashville, Tennessee announced the winners of the MCFCA 2020 Film Awards. Promising Young Woman was the big winner taking two of the top four awards, including Best Picture.
