SFFILM has announced the complete lineup for the 2020 San Francisco International Film Festival (originally scheduled for April 8–21), though the event itself was canceled due to growing safety concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2020 Sun Valley Film Festival (SVFF),announced its honorees – Amy Poehler, Winston Duke, Eliza Hittman and Druyan along with the film line-up for its ninth annual event, taking place March 18-22, 2020. The festival will open on March 18 with a special presentation of the documentary RUTH – Justice Ginsburg in Her Own Words with Oscar®-winning director and Sun Valley part-time resident, Freida Lee Mock attending, and close on March 22 with The Last Shift, director Andrew Cohn attending for Q&A following the screening.
The 2020 Athena Film Festival (AFF) will open on Thursday, February 27, with the New York premiere of “I Am Woman.” The film, directed by Unjoo Moon and written by Emma Jensen, stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey as singer-songwriter Helen Reddy, whose song “I Am Woman” became the anthem for the women’s movement in the 1970s.

The Toronto International Film Festival unveiled the 10 features that comprise the Platform competition for 2019. Of the 10 features in this year’s Platform selection, 40% are directed by women. The films hail from a wide range of regions, including Europe, Latin America, East Asia, and the US. Kazik Radwanski’s Anne at 13,000 ft is the standout Canadian title in the program’s 2019 lineup, grounded in a career-best performance by
Deragh Campbell (TIFF 2015 Rising Star).
The World Premiere of Rocks, director Sarah Gavron’s “intimate, honest, and precise” third feature, will open the 2019 Platform program of the Toronto International Film Festival. The follow-up to her earlier Suffragette and Brick Lane stars Bukky Bakray in a career-launching role as Rocks, a teenager who suddenly finds herself struggling to take care of herself and her younger brother.
