Rich Peppiatt’s Kneecap leads the nominations for the 2025 Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) Awards with 17, including Best Film. Also nominated for Best Film are Kathleen Is Here, King Frankie, Small Things Like These, Spilt Milk, and The Apprentice.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the 353 feature films eligible for the 2024 Academy Awards; of which 207 feature films are eligible for consideration in the Best Picture category, which has additional eligibility requirements beyond those for general entry.

Movies released on November 1 weekend includes a diverse lineup of titles that span genres and styles, from Cannes-winning musical to hard-hitting dramas and thrilling tales of survival. Best Actress and Jury Prize Cannes-winning Emilia Pérez is a daring musical from French auteur Jacques Audiard. Jesse Eisenberg’s comedy-drama A Real Pain explores the process of mourning. Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave) returns with a touching WWII drama, Blitz, starring Saoirse Ronan. Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) also returns in a small-town thriller, Small Things Like These. The Shameik Moore-starring comedy The Gutter tells the story of an unlikely bowling hero. The Sylvester Stallone-produced drama Lost on a Mountain in Maine follows the true story of a 12-year-old boy’s survival. Hannah Peterson’s Tribeca-winning The Graduates is a coming-of-age film that explores the theme of trauma. Robert Zemeckis reunites with Tom Hanks in Here, capturing human experiences with a unique twist. Finally, Clint Eastwood’s latest film, Juror #2, stars Nicholas Hoult in the leading role.
Malcolm Washington’s The Piano Lesson snagged the audience award for Best U.S. Narrative, and Music by John Williams directed by Laurent Bouzereauat won for Best U.S. Documentary at the 2024 Newport Beach Film Festival.
The 27th SCAD Savannah Film Festival taking place from October 26 to November 2 will screen 162 films, including 123 narrative feature films, 31 documentary feature films, and 69 shorts, with 10 world premieres and six U.S. premieres.
Following his Best Actor Oscar win for ‘Oppenheimer,’ Cillian Murphy now stars in ‘Small Things Like These,’ a period piece drama film based on the 2021 award winning novel by Claire Keegan. Produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the film is helmed by director Tim Mielants.
The documentary Dahomey by Mati Diop won the Golden Bear for Best Film at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival. The film documents the return of 26 royal treasures of the Kingdom of Dahomey from Paris, returning to their country of origin, the present-day Republic of Benin.
The world premiere of Small Things Like These, directed by Tim Mielants will open the 74th Berlin International Film Festival on February 15, 2024. Starring in the film are Cillian Murphy, Eileen Walsh, Michelle Fairley and Emily Watson. Small Things Like These will screen in Competition.
