Magnolia Pictures released the trailer for the Some Kind of Heaven, documentary on The Villages, oft described as America’s largest retirement community, located in Central Florida. Directed by Lance Oppenheim the documentary premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, and will open in theaters and on demand on January 15th, 2021.

The 43rd Denver Film Festival (DFF43) kicks off tonight, Opening Night, October 22 with Searchlight’s NOMADLAND. The film will also receive DFF43’s Rare Pearl Award which will be accepted by director, Chloé Zhao, in a video presentation before the film screening. The Rare Pearl Award highlights a film whose beauty and uniqueness stand out as finest of the year. Recent Rare Pearl Award winners include Portrait of a Lady on Fire (DFF42) and Roma (DFF41).

Lance Oppenheim’s documentary feature debut Some Kind of Heaven which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival has been acquired by Magnolia Pictures. Magnolia is planning an early 2021 release.

The 44th Atlanta Film Festival + Creative Conference (ATLFF) which was originally scheduled to take place in the spring, but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will now take place from Thursday, September 17 – Sunday, September 27, 2020. The festival shared the lineup of creative works, feature-length and short films selected from a record-breaking 8,500+ submissions for the 2020 event.

Earlier this month, the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) announced MIFF 68 1⁄2 – a reimagined celebration of film online, following the cancellation of MIFF 2020. The fully-curated program will showcase over 100 films including 12 world premieres, Australian premieres, shorts, Q&As, special events, and more. MIFF 68 1⁄2 will be available to stream in Australia August 6-23.
