The Atlanta Film Critics Circle announced their awards for best films and performances of 2020 with director Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland emerging as the number one film. The film also won the award for Best Director for Chloe Zhao and Best Cinematography for Joshua James Richards.
Sound of Metal star Riz Ahmed will receive the inaugural Impact Award at the upcoming 38th Miami Film Festival. The award tribute and conversation moderated by Variety’s Film Awards Editor Clayton Davis will take place on March 6, 2021.

The National Board of Review today announced their 2020 honorees, with Da 5 Bloods earning Best Film and Best Director for Spike Lee, Best Actor for Riz Ahmed in Sound of Metal, and Best Actress for Carey Mulligan in Promising Young Woman.
Nomadland directed by Chloé Zhao was named Best Picture of 2020 by Online Film Critics Society (OFCS), which is comprised of nearly 300 film critics from around the world. Nomadland also won for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing for Chloé Zhao; Best Actress for Frances McDormand and Best Cinematographer for Joshua James Richards.
Never Rarely Sometimes Always leads the nominations for the 2021 Film Independent Spirit Awards with 7 nominations including Best Feature, Best Director for Eliza Hittman and Best Female Lead for Sidney Flanigan. Minari was close behind with 6 nominations including Best Feature, Best Director for Lee Isaac Chung and Best Male Lead for Steven Yeun. Other Best Feature nominees included First Cow, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Nomadland.
“Nomadland” by Chloé Zao and “Promising Young Woman” by Emerald Fennell tied for the top honor of Best Film at the Kansas City Film Critics Circle’s James Loutzenhiser Awards. “Nomadland” also received awards in the Best Director and Adapted Screenplay categories, while “Promising Young Woman” won Best Actress and Original Screenplay. They were the only films to win multiple awards.
AFI announced the movies and television shows recipients of the 2020 AFI Awards. Films making the list include Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, One Night in Miami, and Sound of Metal.
George C. Wolfe’s Netflix drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was named Best Film of Year for the 10th annual Black Film Critics Circle Awards. Regina King’s One Night in Miami was among the big winners with honors for best director for King, in a tie with Chloé Zhao for Nomadland; best supporting actor for Leslie Odom, Jr. and best ensemble for the cast.
The Online Film Critics Society (OFCS) announced the nominees for its 24th annual film awards. Films nominated for Best Picture include First Cow, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Minari, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman and Sound of Metal.
The Houston Film Critics Society named ‘Nomadland’ the Best Picture of 2020 along with Best Director honors for Chloé Zhao and Best Cinematography for Joshua James Richards. The Society honored Taiwan’s ‘A Sun’ as Best Foreign Language Film and ‘My Octopus Teacher’ as Best Documentary.
The St. Louis Film Critics Association crowned Nomadland the Best Film of 2020, along with honors of Best Director plus Best Editing for Chloé Zhao, and Best Cinematography for Joshua James Richards . Best Foreign Language Feature went to Another Round and Best Documentary Feature went to Collective.
