Five world premiere feature films, plus four award-winning feature films from previous Festivals have been added to the 2023 Sundance Film Festival lineup. The 2023 Festival will take place January 19–29, 2023, in person in Park City, Salt Lake City, and the Sundance Resort, along with a selection of films available online across the country January 24–29, 2023.
The documentary Summer of Soul (…Or When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised) directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson won the Arts award at the 82nd Peabody Awards. In the concert documentary film Summer of Soul, musician and debut director Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson puts us in the front row of a seminal event that should be as legendary as Woodstock but had been relegated to the dusty and neglected storage bins of history: the Harlem Cultural Festival in the summer of 1969. The film weaves together interviews with attendees and cultural commentators for context with astonishing footage of festival performances from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King, and many more.
Flee, Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s animated documentary took the top prize at the 15th Annual Cinema Eye Honors, winning the award for Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Filmmaking. Jessica Kingdon’s Ascension won three awards, the most of the evening, for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography, Original Score and Debut Feature. Both films have been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
Oscar-nominated documentary Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) will make its broadcast television premiere on ABC on Sunday, February 20, 2022 (8:00-10:31 p.m. EST).

The Chicago Indie Critics announced the winners of their sixth annual film awards and after leading the field with nine nominations, The Power of the Dog emerged as the top winner with three CIC awards. The Netflix western drama won for Best Studio film and earned three trophies for Jane Campion, one as a producer of the film and the other two for her direction and adaptation of Thomas Savage’s novel.

The North Carolina Film Critics Association announced the winners for the tenth annual awards for achievements in film with The Power of the Dog leading the pack with six awards, including narrative film, director, actor, supporting actor, adapted screenplay, and cinematography.
The North Texas Film Critics Association (NTFCA) picked David Lowery’s “The Green Knight” as the Best Picture of 2021. The French Dispatch was a big winner, taking the honors of the Gary Murray Award for Best Ensemble; Best Supporting Actor for Jeffrey Wright and Best Supporting Actress for Tilda Swinton.
