Never Rarely Sometimes Always leads the nominations for the 2021 Film Independent Spirit Awards with 7 nominations including Best Feature, Best Director for Eliza Hittman and Best Female Lead for Sidney Flanigan. Minari was close behind with 6 nominations including Best Feature, Best Director for Lee Isaac Chung and Best Male Lead for Steven Yeun. Other Best Feature nominees included First Cow, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Nomadland.

‘One Night in Miami’ ‘Night of the Kings’ ‘Nomadland ‘ Win Black Film Critics 2020 Awards
One Night in Miami by Regina King George C. Wolfe’s Netflix drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom was named Best Film of Year for the 10th annual Black Film Critics Circle Awards. Regina King’s One Night in Miami was among the big winners with honors for best director for King, in a tie with Chloé Zhao for Nomadland; best supporting actor for Leslie Odom, Jr. and best ensemble for the cast.

San Diego Film Critics 2020 Awards – ‘Promising Young Woman’ Named Best Film
Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman The San Diego Film Critics Society announced the 2020 winners of their annual awards, naming Promising Young Woman as Best Picture along with Best Actress honors for Carey Mulligan for her performance in the films.

Radha Blank – Director, Writer, Actor of “The Forty-Year-Old Version” to Receive Sundance Institute 2020 Vanguard Award
THE FORTY-YEAR-OLD VERSION: RADHA BLANK (WRITER, DIRECTOR) as RADHA. Cr. JEONG PARK/NETFLIX ©2020 Sundance Institute will honor filmmaker Radha Blank with the 2020 Vanguard Award presented by Acura, given annually to an artist whose work highlights the art of storytelling and creative independence. The award honors the artistic achievement of her feature film directorial debut The Forty-Year-Old Version, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and was developed by Blank at the Institute’s Labs. The Institute invites fans and supporters of independent cinema to celebrate Radha with a special event on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 hosted on Sundance Collab, the community platform for creators from around the world. The celebration, free for all, will feature Octavia Spencer, who was an advisor to Blank at the Labs, and a conversation between Blank and 2019 Vanguard Award recipient Lulu Wang (The Farewell).

Oyelowo also stars in the fantasy-adventure film that follows a boy who sets out on a quest to save his ill mother by searching for a mythic figure said to have magical healing powers.

Films range from indie films to star studded cast featuring Meek Mill, Wilmer Valderrama, Elisabeth Moss, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Anne Hathaway, Ben Affleck and more. The Festival hosts screenings in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort, from January 23 to February 2, 2020.
