Everything Everywhere All At Once led the nominations for the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards with eight total nominations, including Best Director for Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, and acting nominations for stars Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu. Tár received seven nominations including Best Director for Todd Field and acting nominations for Cate Blanchett and Nina Hoss.
The 66th BFI London Film Festival (LFF) announced the full program line-up of films, series and immersive art works from over 63 countries with 41% of the program made by female and non-binary directors/creators or co-directors/creators and 34% made by ethnically diverse directors/creators.

MUBI will release Martine Syms’ entertaining debut feature “The African Desperate,” the film follows 24 hours in the life of Palace, Syms’s fellow visual artist Diamond Stingily. The film will open theatrically in New York on September 16, with a nationwide rollout to follow. Syms will also be presenting the film internationally as part of an in-person event tour throughout September and October in the US and Europe. Following the theatrical release and events, the film will be available to stream globally on MUBI.
Film at Lincoln Center and The Museum of Modern Art announced the lineup for 51st edition of New Directors/New Films (ND/NF) taking place April 20–May 1, 2022. This year’s festival will introduce 26 features and 11 shorts, a total of 39 directors, 21 of which are women, to filmgoers in theaters at both FLC and MoMA.
