Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains won Best Picture, Cinematography and Debut Feature at this year’s International Cinephile Society Awards given annually by the International Cinephile Society, an online organization of professional film critics and journalists worldwide.
Spanish director Jonás Trueba’s The August Virgin (La virgen de agosto) will make its virtual cinema release (US & Cadnda) on Friday August 21st.

Now in its 32nd year, the 2019 AFI European Union Film Showcase, taking place December 4 to 22 at the American Film Institute’s historic theatre in Silver Spring, MD, highlights 46 films representing all 28 EU member states. Films include award winners, regional box-office hits, debut works by up-and-coming talents and new works by leading auteurs, plus 11 of the top contenders for this year’s Academy Award® for Best International Feature Film and 10 U.S. and North American premieres.
Sixteen Spanish films including a number of debut films and works by directors with an extensive career, such as Pedro Almodóvar and David Trueba will be showcased in Made in Spain program at the 2019 San Sebastian Festival.
The 54th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival ran June 28th to July 6th, and today the festival’s juries presented awards for the best films at the closing ceremony. The Father (Bashtata) directed by Kristina Grozeva, Petar Valchanov won the $25,000 top prize, the Grand Prix – Crystal Globe.
The August Virgin (La virgen de agosto) directed by Jonás Trueba won the prestigious FIPRESCI prize, awarded by The International Federation of Film Critics, at the 2019 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The jury commented, “The award goes to a modest, unpretentious film skillfully opening a number of issues and tackling a range of emotions while maintaining an inspiringly positive worldview.”
Films from Chinese director Zhai Yixiang, Germany’s Jan-Ole Gerster and American director Martha Stephens are among the geographically diverse selections in the 54th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival main competition section.
