
Celine Song’s Past Lives was named film of the year by the Dublin Film Critics Circle, representing Ireland’s professional film critics. Song also won best director.

Greenwich Entertainment debuted the official trailer for The Beasts (As Bestas) the Goya award winning Spanish thriller starring Denis Ménochet and Marina Foïs as a French couple settling in the Spanish countryside, however, their presence creates hostility with their neighbors.

The Goya Award-winning film The Beasts, directed by Goya Award-winner and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Rodrigo Sorogoyen, took the top jury prize, the $25,000 Knight MARIMBAS Award, at the 40th Miami Film Festival. The thriller about a French couple starting a new life in rural Galicia, Spain, also received the Rene Rodriguez Critics Award, and “The Beasts” composer Oliver Arson earned the Alacran Music in Film Award. The award highlights the power of music and film and celebrates the role of the film composer and was selected by the Art of Light (Composer) Award honoree Nicholas Britell.

Now in its 35th year, the 2022 AFI European Union Film Showcase, taking place December 1–20 at the American Film Institute’s historic theatre in Silver Spring, Maryland highlights 56 films representing all 27 EU member states. Of the Official Selections, 50% are directed or co-directed by women.

The Colombian film The Kings of the World (Los reyes del mundo) by Laura Mora has won the Golden Shell at San Sebastian Festival’s 70th edition. The film follows five Medellín teenagers from the streets on a desperate journey of survival. Genki Kawamura took the Silver Shell for Best Director for A Hundred Flowers (Hyakka), while the Best Screenplay Award went to Dong Yun Zhou and Wang Chao for their work on the Chao’s movie, A Woman (Kong Xiu); and City of Donostia / Sebastian Audience Award went to Argentina, 1985 by Santiago Mitre.

The European Film Academy Board has chosen 30 films to be part of the Academy´s Feature Film Selection 2022 for the European Film Awards. The Feature Film Selection includes films that the Board of the Academy recommends to all Academy members for a nomination for the European Film Awards 2022. In a second part, 10-15 further titles for the Feature Film Selection will be announced in September.

18 titles with Spanish production (15 features, two shorts and one TV series) will be seen in the Official Selection, New Directors, Zabaltegi-Tabakalera, Perlak and the Velodrome at San Sebastian Festival’s 70th edition, running from September 16-24, 2022.
