44 films from 21 countries have been confirmed to screen at the 34th AFI Latin American Film Festival, taking place September 21 to October 11 at the historic AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. The Festival spotlights Latin America’s films and filmmaking during National Hispanic Heritage Month.
A Ravaging Wind (El viento que arrasa), a cinematic adaptation of Selva Almada’s homonymous novel by Argentinian filmmaker Paula Hernández will open the Horizontes Latinos section of the 71st edition of San Sebastian film festival. Alfredo Castro, Sergi López, Almudena González and Joaquín Acebo star in this tale of a preacher and his daughter who’s car breaks down during their latest mission to spread the gospel.
The Museum of Modern Art and Film at Lincoln Center revealed the lineup of 27 features and 11 shorts, a total of 41 directors for the 52nd edition of New Directors/New Films (ND/NF), taking place from March 29 through April 9, 2023.
The French documentary On the Adamant (Sur l’Adamant) by Nicolas Philibert was awarded the Golden Bear for Best Film at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival. The film profiles The Adamant, a unique floating day-care centre located on the Seine in the heart of Paris, that services adults suffering from mental disorders.
Berlinale revealed the 18 films competing for the Golden and Silver Bears; and 16 films, all of which are world premieres, competing in Encounters section, at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival.
