The Latino Entertainment Journalists Association announced the winners for the 2019 Latino Entertainment Film Awards where “Parasite” won the most awards with five, including Best Picture, Director (Bong Joon-Ho), Original Screenplay (Bong Joon-Ho and Jin Won Han), International Feature (for the country of South Korea), and Film Editing (Yang Jinmo).
Netflix’s gangster epic “The Irishman” leads the nominations for the Latino Entertainment Journalists Association (LEJA)’s second annual Latino Entertainment Film Awards with 10 nominations. “Monos” picked up seven nominations, and six nominations went to “Parasite,” “The Two Popes” and “Marriage Story.”

NewFest, one of the world’s most respected LGBTQ film festivals announced today the winners of its 31st edition with top honors going to Jayro Bustamante for TEMBLORES (Grand Jury Prize, Narrative Feature) and Theodore Collatos and Carolina Monnerat for QUEEN OF LAPA (Grand Jury Prize, Documentary Feature), while Levan Akin’s AND THEN WE DANCED and Cody Stickels’ A NIGHT AT SWITCH N’ PLAY picked up the top Audience Awards for narrative and documentary features respectively.
Destin Daniel Cretton’s JUST MERCY will open the 28th Philadelphia Film Festival on October 17. This heartrending and inspirational film tells the story of author and social justice activist, Bryan Stevenson, played by acclaimed actor Michael B. Jordan of FRUITVALE STATION, CREED, and BLACK PANTHER fame. The 2019 AFI Latin American Film Festival will take place September 12–October 2 at the historic AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD. Celebrating its 30th edition this year, the festival honors Ibero-American cultural connections during National Hispanic Heritage Month. This year’s festival will showcase 53 films, nearly 40% of the films are directed by women.

Fifteen films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay will be showcased in the Horizontes Latinos section of the 2019 San Sebastian International Film Festival. The films cover a wide range of issues including the Guatemalan genocide, the Chile of the 70s, the crisis of the Cuban rafters, legal abortion in Argentina, and life in Mexico, but also narratives given no space in the history books: the passage into adult life, the crises of life and family relationships.

This Changes Everything, a pivotal documentary examining historic and contemporary gender inequity in the American film and television industries, will open the 36th edition of Miami Dade College’s acclaimed Miami Film Festival, on Friday, March 1st at the historic Olympia Theater. Appearing on camera are leading Hollywood women Meryl Streep, Geena Davis, Sandra Oh, Rosario Dawson, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Chastain, Taraji P. The Panorama program lineup of the 69th Berlin International Film Festival is complete, and will feature a total of 45 controversial, political and challenging films from 38 countries. 34 films celebrate their world premiere and 19 of the films are debut works. Among the 45 films are 29 feature films and 16 documentary films.
