British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) announced the long list for the 2020 Best British Short Film award. The 16 films listed below were chosen from over 300 entries. BIFA also announced this year’s long list in its highly-competitive Best International Independent Film category, and Best Documentary category, celebrating the finest independent films of the year.
Rubika Shah’s timely documentary ‘White Riot‘ charting the rise of the U.K.’s ’70s grassroots movement, Rock Against Racism, premieres on virtual cinema from Film Movement on October 16, 2020.
Our Lady of the Nile (Notre-Dame du Nil) by Atiq Rahimi was awarded the Crystal Bear for the Best Film in Generation 14plus at the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival. The Grand Prix of the International Jury in Generation 14plus for the Best Film, went to My Name Is Baghdad (Meu nome é Bagdá) by Caru Alves de Souza of Brazil.
One of the most talked-about films of the year, MONOS directed by Alejandro Landes won the Best Film Award at BFI London Film Festival 2019. The film is described as a hallucinogenic, intoxicating thriller about child soldiers that has inspired feverish buzz and earned comparisons to Apocalypse Now and Lord of the Flies.
For 12 days from October 2 to 13, the 63rd BFI London Film Festival (LFF) will showcase 229 feature films including 41 documentaries, 7 animations, 13 archive restorations and 7 artists’ moving image features. The program also includes 116 short films.
