Measure for Measure by director Paul Ireland will open this year’s 2019 Byron Bay Film Festival. Ireland’s re-imaging of the William Shakespeare “problem” play Measure for Measure is brought up to date, darkened, and set in Melbourne’s gritty underbelly, where ice, vice and inter-racial rivalries make for a tense urban landscape, with police pay-offs and violence the tactics of first resort.
Actress Juliette Binoche will receive the honorary European Achievement in World Cinema award at the 32nd European Film Awards, in recognition of her “rich and diverse career in front of the camera” and “impressive dedication to cinema.”

Animal Planet acquired the documentary film Watson, which chronicles Sea Shepherd founder Captain Paul Watson, who has spent his life sailing the globe to keep our oceans and their inhabitants safe. Watson had its World Premiere at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, where it was runner-up for the Documentary Audience Award. Additional screenings this year will include Zurich Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival and Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, among others. Watson will open in select U.S. theaters this fall and premieres on Animal Planet later this year.

Edward Norton’s new drama, Motherless Brooklyn, will be the opening night film of the 14th Rome Film Fest, which will take place from October 17th to 27th 2019.
