
The Nashville Film Festival (NashFilm) revealed the first four official films selected for its 54th annual event taking place from September 28 – October 4, 2023.

Set in northern Tunis, the mystery thriller Ashkal: The Tunisian Investigation, an official selection of Cannes Director’s Fortnight, Toronto International Film Festival, Beyond Fest, stars Fatma Oussaifi as a detective investigating a series of deaths, all of them unexplained self-immolations.

Icarus Films will release a new 2K restoration of The Battle of Chile (La batalla de Chile, 1975-1979), by master documentarian Patricio Guzmán. The film chronicles the political developments and the escalating conflicts in Chilean society that led up to and ended with General Augusto Pinochet and his army’s coup, overthrowing the democratically elected president Salvador Allende.

The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) announced the winners of the 2023 MIFF Shorts Awards.

The Toronto International Film Festival announced the 2023 selection for the Wavelengths and Classics programs described as “politically charged, geographically diverse, and formally thrilling” featuring new films by Radu Jude, Isiah Medina, Eduardo Williams, Angela Schanelec, Rosine Mbakam, Wang Bing, Chantal Akerman, Pedro Costa, Jean-Luc Godard, Ja’Tovia Gary, Steve Reinke, and Shambhavi Kaul. This year’s Wavelengths boasts 12 feature films and 19 shorts, as well as a suite of four restored early films by the singular Chantal Akerman.

Toronto International Film Festival 2023 unveiled this year’s Centrepiece (previously known as Contemporary World Cinema) program featuring 47 titles from filmmakers representing 45 countries. Films include Close Your Eyes by Víctor Erice, Fallen Leaves by Aki Kaurismäki, Green Border by Agnieszka Holland, and Perfect Days by Wim Wenders.

An incredible true story of bravery and heroism, One Life directed by James Hawes and starring Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Flynn, Lena Olin, Romola Garai, Alex Sharp, Marthe Keller, Jonathan Pryce and Helena Bonham Carter will make its European Premiere as the American Express Gala of the 67th BFI London Film Festival.
