POV on PBS explores the shadowy nexus of pro sports and the migrant trail in the Cuban baseball documentary film The Last Out, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Sami Khan (St. Louis Superman) and Michael Gassert. The documentary will make its national broadcast premiere on Monday, October 3, 2022, and available to stream free until November 2, 2022 at pbs.org, and the PBS Video app.

Amazon Prime Video debuted the official trailer for Argentina, 1985, the thriller inspired by the true story of public prosecutors Julio Strassera and Luis Moreno Ocampo, who dared to investigate and prosecute Argentina’s bloodiest military dictatorship in 1985. The film stars Ricardo Darín (The Secret in Their Eyes, Wild Tales), and Peter Lanzani.
Academy Award®-winner Eddie Redmayne will be awarded a Golden Eye for his career achievements at the 18th Zurich Film Festival taking place September 22 – October 2, 2022. Redmayne will receive the award prior to presenting the European premiere of Tobias Lindholm’s thriller The Good Nurse, in which he plays a nurse who poses a deadly threat to his patients. He will also participate in a ZFF Masters session.
National Geographic released the teaser trailer for Retrograde, the new documentary from Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Matthew Heineman world premiering at the 2022 Telluride Film Festival. The documentary film captures the final nine months of America’s 20-year war in Afghanistan from multiple perspectives and offers a cinematic and historic window onto the end of America’s longest war, and the costs endured for those most intimately involved.
National Geographic Documentary Films has acquired Bobi Wine: The People’s President, which premiered at Venice Film Festival under the working title Bobi Wine: Ghetto President, from directors Moses Bwayo and Christopher Sharp. The documentary which is playing at Telluride Film Festival over the Labor Day weekend, charts the rise of the pop star-turned-politician seeking to end Uganda’s brutal dictatorship. National Geographic will rollout Bobi Wine: The People’s President at global festivals including London Film Festival throughout the rest of the year and release it in theaters in 2023.
Three Danish films are Holy Spider by Ali Abbasi, Forever by Frelle Petersen and As in Heaven by Tea Lindeburg have been shortlisted as Denmark’s candidate in the International Feature Film category for the 95th Oscars. The winners will be decided on September 27.
