
The Directors Guild of America announced the nominees for DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film and Documentary for 2020.

“Judas and the Black Messiah” was named the year’s Best Film of 2020 by the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA), the world’s largest group of Black film critics. Night of the Kings won the honor of Best Foreign Film and Best Documentary went to All In: The Fight For Democracy.

The 45th Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF45 Streams) will kick off its 14-day online run with Together Together – a film exploring contemporary connections and the particulars of love.

Nomadland and Rocks lead the nominations for the EE British Academy Film Awards in 2021, with seven, followed by The Father, Mank, Minari and Promising Young Woman with six each.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, HBO Max released the trailer for the upcoming documentary film LFG, [“Let’s F—ing Go!”], a no-holds-barred, inside account of the U.S. women’s national team’s ongoing fight for equal pay as told by Megan Rapinoe, Jessica McDonald, Becky Sauerbrunn, Kelley O’Hara, Sam Mewis and others. The film is directed by Academy Award(R)-winners Andrea Nix Fine and Sean Fine.

80 short films are set for the Oscar-qualifying 30th annual Aspen Shortsfest taking place online from April 6 to 11, 2021. The titles include “David,” starring Will Ferrell in a short written and directed by “Silicon Valley” alum Zachary Woods; “Roborovski,” starring Dylan McDermott and co-directed by Oscar-nominated actor Dev Patel; “Silverstone” directed by and starring “Ray Donovan” actor Kerris Dorsey; and “The Price of Cheap Rent” starring “Daily Show” alum Wyatt Cenac.

The coming-out drama film Sweetheart directed by Marley Morrison was voted the Audience Award winner of the 2021 Glasgow Film Festival. Sweetheart is a sharply observed coming-of-age story that charts the relationship between two young women, during a summer holiday at a caravan park in Dorset. The Audience Award is the only award given by GFF and is voted for by the audience.

The new trailer debuted for ‘Drive All Night,’ the debut film from writer-director Peter Hsieh starring Yutaka Takeuchi (Marvel’s ‘The Defenders’) set to make its World Premiere in competition at the Cinequest Film Festival, running March 20-30, 2021.

The Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF) founded by Canadian filmmaker Leslie Ann Coles, celebrates its 19th year March 8–28, 2021. Films from Canada and around the world will be screened on Encore+ and on Digital TIFF Bell Light box.
