El Chicano, a Latino-inspired superhero film starring Raul Castillo and George Lopez will kick off the 8th Annual Maryland International Film Festival-Hagerstown on March 29, 2019.

Megha Ramaswamy’s THE ODDS, a coming-of-age tale about two teens who skip school on an important exam day and go on a fantastical journey through Mumbai, will close out the 2019 Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) on April 14.

The 2019 Jury and Special Award winners of the 26th SXSW Film Festival Awards were announced at the historic Paramount Theatre with the top awards going to Alice directed by Josephine Mackerras winning Best Narrative Feature Film and For Sama directed by Waad al-Kateab, Edward Watts winning Best Documentary Feature Film. Short films and other juried sections, including Film Design Awards, were also presented.

Actress Laura Dern will be honored during the 2019 San Francisco International Film Festival with a special tribute, followed by an advance screening of her upcoming film Trial by Fire, directed by Edward Zwick. The moderated onstage conversation with Dern and the screening will take place Sunday, April 14, at 3:30 pm at the Castro Theatre. Zwick will also participate in the onstage conversation preceding the film.

The 18th annual Tribeca Film Festival will showcase 63 diverse and engaging short films in competition, including 31 world premieres. There will also be special screening programs for the annual Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival and the debut of shorts from The Queen Collective, a program aimed at accelerating gender and racial equality behind the camera. The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24 – May 5.

Oscilloscope Laboratories released the insane, uncensored theatrical trailer for Relaxer directed by Joel Potrykus, starring Joshua Burge and David Dastmalchian. Relaxer will be released in cinemas on March 22.

Bleecker Street released the first trailer for dark comedy The Art of Self-Defense, from writer/director Riley Stearns, and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Alessandro Nivola and Imogen Poots. Jesse Eisenberg stars as timid bookkeeper Casey, who after he’s attacked on the street at night by a roving motorcycle gang, joins a neighborhood karate studio to learn how to protect himself. The Art of Self-Defense will World Premiere at the 2019 SXSW Film Festival on Sunday, March 10.
