Toronto International Film Festival unveiled the 10 feature films that comprise the 2022 Platform program that champions bold directorial visions. Emily, the feature debut by Frances O’Connor, has been selected as the program’s opening film, and — like all 10 films in the program — is a World Premiere. This year’s selection also includes two Canadian titles: Riceboy Sleeps and Viking.

IFC Films will release writer and director Jim Mahoney’s (Klaus) comedy Bar Fight!, starring comedic powerhouses Melissa Fumero (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Rachel Bloom (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “Robot Chicken”), Luka Jones (“Shrill”), and Julian Gant (“Call Me Kat,” Real Steel). IFC Films is planning a day and date release release on November 11, 2022.
Noah Baumbach’s White Noise will make its North American premiere as the Opening Night film of the 60th New York Film Festival at Alice Tully Hall on September 30.

Berenshtein, Roman Shumunov’s film on the true story of Leonid Berenshtein, the last surviving member of the World War II partisan battalion that located Hitler’s secret weapon, won the Jury Award Best Feature at the 27th annual Stony Brook Film Festival. The German film Contra directed by Sönke Wortmann took the Audience Award Best Feature, and Nicole Rodenburg’s Glob Lessons won the Spirit of Independent Filmmaking Award.
The virtual reality production Gumball Dreams from the award-winning VR production company Ferryman Collective and Screaming Color, will make its international premiere as an Official Selection of the 79th Venice International Film Festival. Directed by Deirdre V. Lyons, Gumball Dreams won the SXSW Audience Award XR Experience Competition.
Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton will showcase their new Apple documentary series Gutsy, based on The Book of Gutsy Women: Favorite Stories of Courage and Resilience as part of Toronto International Film Festival’s Industry Conference Visionaries program.
Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stanley Nelson (Attica, Freedom Riders, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution) and Nicole London, two documentaries on Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass premiere on PBS in October 2022.
