
This year’s 49th annual New Directors/New Films (ND/NF) will introduce 27 features and 10 short films to New York audiences from March 25 to April 5.

The 44th Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF44) is kicking-off its 12-day run with Military Wives, a story about the power that lies in unexpected friendships and closing with Dream Horse, an underdog story that will have you cheering. CIFF44 will be held March 25 – April 5, 2020 at Tower City Cinemas, as well as the Gordon Square Arts District and the Cedar Lee District.

Emmy® winning actress Thandie Newton, soon to be seen in the third season of HBO’s “Westworld,” will star in director Julian Higgins’ debut feature God’s Country, Cold Iron Pictures and The Film Arcade announced this week.

The 26th Annual San Luis Obispo International Film Festival presented by Hotel San Luis Obispo (March 17-22) will open with Chusy Jardine’s IT ALL BEGINS WITH A SONG: THE STORY OF THE NASHVILLE SONGWRITER, and close with Benjamin Kasulke’s BANANA SPLIT. Special events include the “Hollywood & Vines” screening events celebrating the intersection of food, wine, and film. The Central Coast Filmmaker Showcase titles were also announced.

The Berlin International Film Festival has officially suspended the Silver Bear – Alfred Bauer Prize, after published reports that Alfred Bauer, after whom the award is named, was an active high-ranking Nazi. The management of the Berlinale has now commissioned the “Institute for Contemporary History” to academically research the context of Alfred Bauer’s function during the Nazi era. For the 70th anniversary of the festival, the Berlinale 2020 will award a special prize: The Silver Bear – 70th Berlinale.

FilmRise released the trailer for Cindy Meehl’s documentary The Dog Doc about unconventional veterinarian Dr. Marty Goldstein who has been called everything from a maverick to a miracle-worker to a quack. Dr. Goldstein runs a clinic in South Salem, New York, that has made him and his staff famous for their integrative and even holistic approaches to pet health issues. The Dog Doc will open in theaters on March 13th, 2020.

Well Go USA released the official trailer for New Orleans-set heist heist thriller film Cut Throat City, directed by Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA (The Man with the Iron Fists, Love Beats Rhymes) which will world premiere at the 2020 SXSW Film Festival. In the film, four friends return to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and receive no help from FEMA. Out of options, they reluctantly turn to a local gangster. The star studded cast include Shameik Moore, Demetrius Shipp Jr., Denzel Whitaker, Keean Johnson, Ethan Hawke, Eiza Gonzalez, Kat Graham, Isaiah Washington, T.I., Terrence Howard, and Wesley Snipes. Cut Throat City opens in theaters on April 10th, 2020.

Cinedigm released a new trailer for the 70s coming-of-age indie drama, Tuscaloosa by veteran music video director Philip Harder. The film set in Alabama in 1972, stars Devon Bostick (Okja), Natalia Dyer (“Stranger Things”), Marchánt Davis (The Day Shall Come), Tate Donovan (Rocketman), and Def Jam hip hop artist YG (White Boy Rick). Tuscaloosa premiered at the Nashville Film Festival in October, and will be released in theaters, on digital, and on demand on March 13, 2020.

The Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, will open its19th edition on April 15 with the world premiere of Jimmy Carter Rock & Roll President. It will set the stage for a festival featuring works that celebrate the power of change through art, politics and community. The 2020 Tribeca Film Festival will run April 15-26.

Searchlight Pictures released the official US trailer for The Personal History of David Copperfield, director Armando Iannucci’s dazzlingly inventive and reimagined take on one of literature’s most triumphant masterpieces.

Ahead of March 10th US Release, Epic Pictures released a new trailer for the dark sci-fi thriller Transference directed by Matthew Ninaber. In the film, hunted by an unstoppable secret agent, a brother must hide his twin sister and her supernatural abilities so that she does not fall prey to becoming an experiment in a classified government program. Transference will open in L.A. on March 6th and land on VOD March 10th and Blu-Ray March 24th.
