Hamptons International Film Festival will honor legendary director Brian De Palma with a Lifetime Achievement Award, along with a special screening of one of his many award-winning films at the upcoming 27th edition of the festival. De Palma will also participate in a A Conversation With… at the festival with Festival co-chair Alec Baldwin.

After another outstanding festival of Irish and international film premieres, screenings, workshops and discussions the 31st Galway Film Fleadh came to a close on Sunday July 14, 2019. The annual awards ceremony took place before the screening of the closing film Never Grow Old with the top awards going to A Bread Factory directed by Patrick Wang for Best International Film; Stage: The Culinary Internship directed by Abbie Ainsworth for Best International Documentary, and The Best of Dorien B. directed by Anke Blonde for Best International First Feature.

The African Diaspora International Film Festival (ADIFF) – DC will hold its 13th Anniversary from August 9 to 11, 2019 at the George Washington University (GWU) Marvin Center (800 21st Street NW). Welcome Back, Tora-san (tentative title), from legendary director Yoji Yamada, will open the 2019 Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) on October 28. The film has been completed in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Japan’s most beloved comedy film series, Otoko wa Tsurai yo (It’s Tough Being a Man). The series holds a Guinness World Record for longest-running film series starring the same lead actor; and this marks both the 50th title as well as the first film to be released since 1995, following the untimely death of star Kiyoshi Atsumi.

Bleecker Street released new official clips from dark comedy The Art of Self-Defense directed by Riley Stearns, and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Alessandro Nivola, along with Imogen Poots. The Art of Self-Defense opens in select theaters today, July 12, and nationwide on July 19, 2019.

The film-scandal of the 2nd Venice International Film Festival in 1934, Extase (Ecstasy, 1932) written and directed by Gustav Machatý, with Hedy Kiesler (later known as Hedy Lamarr in Hollywood), is the film selected for the Pre-opening event on Tuesday August 27th of the 76th Venice International Film Festival of the Biennale di Venezia, to be held in the Sala Darsena (Palazzo del Cinema) on the Lido.
