The 34th Venice International Film Critics’ Week (SIC) which runs August 28th to September 7th, 2019, is an independent and parallel section organized by the National Union of Italian Film Critics (SNCCI) during the 76th Venice International Film Festival. HBO has confirmed their slate of thought-provoking documentaries for the second half of 2019, including: Roger Ross Williams’ THE APOLLO, an insider’s look at the history and legacy of the legendary Apollo Theater; Susan Lacy’s VERY RALPH, the intimate story of fashion icon Ralph Lauren; Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato and Diane von Furstenberg’s LIBERTY: MOTHER OF EXILES, a revealing, up-close look at one of the most beloved icons in the world; and McMILLIONS, from executive producer Mark Wahlberg and directors James Lee Hernandez and Brian Lazarte, a documentary series chronicling the stranger-than-fiction story of how an ex-cop rigged McDonald’s Monopoly game promotion for over a decade and stole millions.

An annual presentation of the nonprofit Cinema St. Louis, the 2019 Whitaker St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase serves as the area’s primary venue for films made by local artists. The Showcase screened works that are written, directed, edited, or produced by St. Louis residents or films and filmmakers with strong local ties.

HBO Documentary Films, Show of Force, Roc Nation and Get Lifted Film Co. are currently in production on a new documentary series reexamining the Atlanta Child Murders of the late-’70s and early-’80s. It offers a never-before-seen look at the murder of at least 30 African American children and young adults that occurred over a two-year period in Atlanta, from the initial disappearance and discovery of two murdered teenage boys and the fear that gripped the city, to the prosecution and indictment of 23-year-old Atlanta native Wayne Williams and the rush to officially shut down the case.

VERY RALPH is directed and produced by award-winning documentarian Susan Lacy (HBO’s “Jane Fonda in Five Acts,” “Spielberg“).

The spy thriller ECCO – the feature debut of writer-director Ben Medina – is described as a thriller in the tradition of Drive, Hanna, and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The film starring Lathrop Walker (Leverage), Tabitha Bastien (The Wonderland Murders), Helena Grace Donald (Hellraiser: Judgment), and Michael Winters (Gilmore Girls, NYPD Blue), will open nationwide on August 9th.
