The 2011 Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF) will end its eight-day run with A Beginner’s Guide to Endings on Thursday, May 5, 2011.
Written and directed by Jonathan Sobol, A Beginner’s Guide to Endings follows three brothers as they set off to rectify a lifetime of mistakes after learning they only have a few days left to live. Duke White (Harvey Keitel) has not been an ideal father to his five boys. An inveterate gambler who never experienced a windfall he could not blow within 24 hours, he has come to the end of his rope. Years ago, he signed up his three eldest sons for unsafe drug tests that turned out to have dire consequences, as a result, the boys’ life expectancy have been substantially reduced. Upon receiving the news after their father’s funeral, the sons return to their family home in Niagara Falls, where they respond to their eminent demises in different ways.
This year’s Festival will showcase more than 400 films from over 40 countries, along with nightly special events, red carpet galas, post screening receptions, compelling conversations with filmmakers, international spotlights, industry seminars and retrospectives.
