First Work, Then Play directed by Brenda Lien

The 34th Filmfest Dresden announced the award winners of the National, International and Regional Competitions with the Saxon Film Promotion Prize going to First Work, Then Play from Brenda Lien. The Brazilian-German co-production It Is Not the Brazilian Homosexuals Who Are Perverse but the Situation in Which They Live from Eduardo Mamede, Leandro Goddinho and Paulo Menezes won both the LUCA GenderDiversity Film Award and the Dresden Short Film Award of the German Film Critics Association.

Handbook from Pavel Mozhar (Germany/Belarus) garnered two awards: the Golden Horseman Short Film in the National Competition, as well as the “fully political” – Short Film Award of the Saxon State Centre for Political Education.

The Golden Horseman of the Audience in the National Competition went to Marleen Valien’s work Not The 80s. In the International Competition, the audience chose the Czech-Slovak co-production MilyTati (Love, Dad) from Diana Cam Van Nguyen. In the Regional Competition (Regional Film Night), the audiences were wooed by and awarded Alison Kuhn’s short fiction film Fluffy Tales.

Sierra from Sander Joon (Estonia 2022) went on to win the ARTE Short Film Prize, in addition to receiving a Special Mention from the Youth Jury in the International Competition.
