The Brutalist was named Best Film at the 18th Alliance of Women Film Journalists Awards, however, The Substance lead with 4 awards including Best Director, Best Original Screenplay awards for Coralie Fargeat along with Best Female Director and and Best Female Screenwriter also for Coralie Fargeat in a tie with Payal Kapadia of All We Imagine as Light.
Other top awards went to Marianne Jean-Baptiste who won Best Actress for Hard Truths, Colman Domingo won Best Actor for Sing Sing, Isabella Rossellini won Best Supporting Actress for Conclave, Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, and Mikey Madison, won the Best Women’s Breakthrough award for Anora.
Flow won the Best Animated Film Award, in a tie with The Wild Robot, The Seed of the Sacred Fig won Best International Film and Dahomey won Best Documentary.

AWFJ always focuses on and supports women’s contributions in all aspects of film production, and we are delighted that this year’s AWFJ EDA Awards honor women creatives in non-gendered ‘best of’ categories, as well as in all of our female focus categories.
