A24 debuted the official trailer for Eva Victor’s Sorry, Baby, a darkly comedic exploration of trauma and healing. Set against the backdrop of rural New England, the film follows Agnes, a graduate student-turned-professor, as she navigates life after a traumatic incident.
Starring in the movie are Eva Victor, Naomi Ackie, Lucas Hedges, John Carroll Lynch, Louis Cancelmi, and Kelly McCormack.
Sorry, Baby premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival on January 27, and was the closing night film of the 51st Seattle International Film Festival.
Written and directed by Eva Victor, making her feature film directorial debut, and produced by Barry Jenkins, it will be released in theaters on June 27, 2025.
According to the official synopsis: Something bad happened to Agnes. But life goes on—for everyone around her, at least.
In discussing her experience as a first-time filmmaker, and on maintaining creative control, Victor told Sundance, “I’m really grateful that I was working with people who understood how to logistically support me and creatively support me; as a first-time filmmaker you don’t necessarily have [that]. You don’t know what you should be protective of. And so, someone teaching you what to be protective of is so helpful.”
Critics have lauded Sorry, Baby, with Vanity Fair review writing, “Victor’s film, which premiered here at the Sundance Film Festival on Monday, is a meticulously crafted wonder, the most auspicious debut I’ve seen here this year. Victor maintains the oddball humor that first endeared her to her followers, but she also incorporates whole other, previously unseen facets of her considerable talent. Sorry, Baby is funny, sad, thoughtful, and specific, a keenly observed portrait of a woman blown off course by a traumatic incident.”
