Founded in 1925 by Harold Ross and Jane Grant, The New Yorker began as a sophisticated humor magazine aimed at capturing the pulse of New York City. Over time, it evolved into one of America’s most influential publications, known for its sharp writing, elegant tone, and deep cultural insight.

The New Yorker at 100 invites viewers inside the world of the iconic magazine, revealing the people who make possible, from editors and writers to artists and photographers. The film offers an inside look at the teamwork and creativity that have kept the publication at the forefront of culture for a century.

The documentary follows editor David Remnick and his team as they prepare for The New Yorker’s 100th anniversary issue. Viewers are taken inside the magazine’s bustling offices and into the everyday lives of its writers across New York City. Narrated by Julianne Moore, The New Yorker at 100 explores how the magazine has chronicled politics, art, and culture for a century, even as the future of in-depth journalism grows uncertain.

Blending archival footage with interviews from contributors such as Hilton Als, Roz Chast, and Ronan Farrow, along with admirers like Jesse Eisenberg, Ronny Chieng, and Molly Ringwald, The New Yorker at 100 paints a vivid portrait of the magazine’s influence. The film offers a close look at its meticulous fact-checking, editorial meetings, and the thought that goes into its famous cartoons.

Director Curry said, “The New Yorker is full of people who are obsessed with what they do, whether it’s exposing a government scandal or profiling an obscure musician or policing the use of commas. I wanted to introduce audiences to these obsessives — partly because I found them interesting and funny and insightful, and partly because I think what they do is really important. It’s a tough time for fact-based journalism, and I wanted audiences to understand and celebrate the important work that’s under threat. I knew we wouldn’t be able to capture every aspect of The New Yorker in one film, but I was excited to introduce people — give them a tasting menu — to this long-standing institution and to the vital significance of journalism in general.”
