‘Leviticus’ Trailer – Queer Romance Meets Supernatural Horror in Adrian Chiarella’s Haunting Debut

Merging romance with visceral terror, Australian filmmaker Adrian Chiarella makes his feature debut with the haunting supernatural horror film Leviticus.

Positioned at the intersection of queer coming-of-age and psychological horror, the film, starring Joe Bird and Stacy Clausen alongside Mia Wasikowska, centers on two teenage boys whose connection awakens a violent, shape-shifting entity.

Leviticus made its world premiere in the Midnight section of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2026, where it generated immediate buzz and was acquired by Neon.

It is now set to open in U.S. theaters on June 19, 2026.

Here is the synopsis: Two teenage boys must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most—each other.

In its Sundance review, The Guardian called Leviticus a “crafty spin on an often lazily derivative sub-genre,” writing, “Conversion therapy has gory results in a smart and surprisingly romantic debut feature from Australian writer-director Adrian Chiarella.” Critic Benjamin Lee added, “In many increasingly overcrowded fields – trauma horror, curse horror, gay horror, Sundance horror – Leviticus stands tall.”
