Drawing from her own life experiences, Romería, from acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Carla Simón is a deeply personal journey documented in the coming-of-age drama.
The film centers on Marina, an 18-year-old orphan determined to uncover the truth about her parents and their past.
Led by a breakout performance from Llúcia Garcia, the cast also includes Tristán Ulloa, Miryam Gallego, and Sara Casasnovas.
Romería made its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2025, where it competed for the Palme d’Or. The film is expected to open U.S. theaters in Summer 2026, via Janus Films.
A beautifully rendered autobiographical tale, Romería is celebrated Spanish director Carla Simón’s touching portrait of family origins.

In a bravura performance, Llúcia Garcia stars as 18-year-old Marina, who travels to the glittering seaside town of Vigo determined to uncover information on her father. Gradually tracking down his siblings, she slowly learns uncomfortable secrets about her parents’ unconventional life and turbulent past. Beyond a tour de force coming-of-age story, Romería offers a moving, trenchant investigation into how family connections form new identities.
In its review, Sight and Sound described the film as an “ethereal drama about buried family histories.” Critic Sophia Satchell-Baeza wrote, “Carla Simón’s story of a young woman untangling a web of family secrets cements the Galician filmmaker’s aptitude for naturalism while also marking a bold new step towards magical realism.”
