Giuseppe Tornatore will be honored with the Golden Globes Prize for Documentary in Partnership with Artemis Rising Foundation for his film Brunello: The Gracious Visionary at the 72nd Taormina Film Festival.

The documentary premiered at Cinecittà Studios in Rome, Italy, followed by its United States premiere at Lincoln Center in New York. The Taormina Film Festival, set to take place June 10 – 14, 2026, will spotlight and honor the film centered on the life of Brunello Cucinelli.

Giuseppe Tornatore has been celebrated internationally for his directorial and screenwriting achievements, winning an Oscar for Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (1988), and creating films including Malèna (2000), Baarìa (2009), and The Best Offer (2013). The awarding of this prize highlights his contribution to contemporary cinema with Brunello: The Gracious Visionary.

Brunello: The Gracious Visionary explores the life and philosophy of Italian entrepreneur Brunello Cucinelli, known as “the king of cashmere.” The film explores how Cucinelli built a global luxury brand while promoting ethical leadership and humanistic business values. The documentary is scored by Nicola Piovani, the Oscar-winning composer of Life is Beautiful.

At the film’s premiere, Giuseppe Tornatore said, “When I met Brunello for the first time, I didn’t know anything about him. So then, listening to his stories, I found myself involved in his adventure and what has turned out to be an experimental movie, as I like to call it. I thank Brunello for allowing me to enter his story and tell it in my own way.”

“What a thrill it is to lift up the art and craft of Giuseppe Tornatore. His signature Cinema Paradiso and pioneering Dolce & Gabbana short films starring Sofia Loren have left a generational imprint, capturing the essence of Italian heritage and beauty for audiences around the world,” said Regina K. Scully, founder and CEO of Artemis Rising Foundation. “We are proud to recognize his documentary of another Italian design legend: Brunello Cucinelli.”

Tiziana Rocca, artistic director of the Taormina Film Festival, said, “We are delighted and deeply honored that an international award as important and prestigious as the Golden Globes has chosen Taormina for this special occasion. Hosting the presentation of such a significant award to a master of cinema like Giuseppe Tornatore is a source of great pride for us and confirms our Festival’s central role in the international film scene.”

The 72nd edition of the Taormina Film Festival will run from June 10-14 in Sicily’s Ancient Theatre of Taormina.
