In the film, Nomi (Jackie Tohn, Nobody Wants This), freshly ousted from her rock band, takes a last-resort job from her best friend Mara (Sarah Podemski, Reservation Dogs) at their childhood Jewish summer camp. While camp director Mara manages a busted septic system, she puts Nomi in charge of a group of outsider teens: the floaters. Their rival camp, led by Mara and Nomi’s nemesis Daniel (Seth Green), issues them a challenge with $30,000 on the line, which they must win in order to save the camp. Nomi pushes the limits and loses Mara’s trust. Now, Nomi and the Floaters must band together and beat their rivals to keep the camp alive.

When asked about the diversity within the Jewish community, director Rachel Israel says, “That was something that was the center of my heart as a Jew wanting to see — to represent the Jewish community in a way that feels true to me, which is that it is diverse and it is wide and it is a welcoming space and I wanted people to see themselves in the film.”

Critics have given the film positive reviews so far. Film Focus Online called it “a fun slice-of-life flick with natural comedy and an instantly lovable story.” The review also highlights the film’s authentic perspective; the Jewish community has commended its accurate portrayal of Jewish summer camps. Forward, a Jewish magazine, however, points out that “all of the movie’s references to [Israel] are strikingly uncritical given the current tensions around antisemitism and anti-Zionism, both inside and outside Jewish communities.”
