Andrew Garfield rallies ordinary people into an extraordinary fight for freedom in The Uprising, the new historical epic from filmmaker Paul Greengrass.
Inspired by the real events of the English Peasants’ Revolt of 1381, the film follows a grieving farmer who unexpectedly becomes the leader of a rebellion against the oppressive rule of King Richard II.
Written and directed by Greengrass, whose work includes United 93, Captain Phillips, and the Bourne films, The Uprising stars Garfield alongside Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston, and Sky Yang.
Focus Features has set the film for a September 11, 2026, theatrical release in the United States.

According to Focus Features, the official synopsis reads: “Andrew Garfield stars as the legendary leader of a ferocious rebellion against the tyranny of King Richard II. As war burns across England, he forms an army of the people to face the King’s might in a fight for justice and survival.”
The film draws inspiration from one of the most significant popular uprisings in English history, placing the experiences of ordinary working people at the center of an epic struggle against oppression.
