‘Musk’ Teaser – First Lok at Alex Gibney’s 4-Hour Elon Musk Documentary

From tech visionary to one of the most powerful and controversial figures in the world, Elon Musk becomes the subject of an expansive new documentary in Musk, the latest film from Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney.

The nearly four-hour documentary takes an incisive look behind the legend of the Tesla, SpaceX and X, examining the man, the mythology and the extraordinary influence he has accumulated across technology, business, media and politics.

Gibney, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker behind Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, and The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, turns his investigative lens toward Musk through interviews and perspectives from people including journalist Kara Swisher, author and podcaster Sam Harris, Musk’s former wife Justine Musk, former partner Ashley St. Clair, Tesla co-founder Martin Eberhard, journalist Zoë Schiffer and Nobel Prize-winning computer scientist Geoffrey Hinton.

Musk made its world premiere out of competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, and will continue its festival run with a North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Following its festival appearances, Bleecker Street will bring Musk to U.S. theaters on October 16, 2026, with the theatrical rollout expanding nationwide on October 23.

According to the synopsis, Musk is “An incisive look behind the legend of Elon Musk, the world’s most heralded “inventorentrepreneur” who exerts an enormous influence on the world in which we all live.”

In the director’s statement published by the Venice Film Festival, Gibney said, “Musk reframes the story of the tech titan as the 21st century reincarnation of the confidence man. By subverting Musk’s favorite tropes of video gaming and simulations, the film conveys the dangers of becoming like the Game Master in Ready Player One. It’s a tale of power and its abuse, but shot from a low angle – the angle of Toto, from the wonderful Wizard of Oz. Instead of being mesmerized by the floating visage of the wizard, Toto saw the shuffling feet at the bottom of the curtain which, once tugged away, revealed levers and gears operated by an ordinary man desperate to project his power.”
