Director Marie Kreutzer and actor Léa Seydoux will both be honored at the Mill Valley Film Festival for their work on the thriller Gentle Monster.
Kreutzer will receive the Mind the Gap Award for Director, and Seydoux will receive the MVFF Award for Acting.
The Mind the Gap Award for Director recognizes standout work by women filmmakers and continues the festival’s commitment to advancing gender equity in the industry. Austrian writer-director Kreutzer is best known for 2022’s “Corsage,” and “Gentle Monster” marks her latest collaboration with Léa Seydoux.
Across three decades, Seydoux’s work has ranged from Inglourious Basterds and Blue Is the Warmest Color to The Grand Budapest Hotel, Spectre, No Time to Die, The French Dispatch, Crimes of the Future, and Dune: Part Two. She has worked with some of cinema’s most revered directors, from Quentin Tarantino and Abdellatif Kechiche to Wes Anderson, Denis Villeneuve, David Cronenberg, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Xavier Dolan.
In Gentle Monster, when a police raid shatters her life, concert pianist Lucy (Léa Seydoux) must protect her son and confront how little she knows of her husband after he is accused of an unspeakable crime in this tense thriller about trust and survival.
Both will appear in person at the 49th Mill Valley Film Festival, running October 1–11, 2026, in Marin County, as part of a Spotlight program screening of Gentle Monster followed by a conversation with Kreutzer and Seydoux on Monday, October 5.
