Dito Tsintsadze’s movie ‘Shindisi’ based on the Russian-Georgian war of August 2008 was announced by Georgian National Film Center as the country’s submission for the Best International Feature category (formerly Best Foreign Language Film) in the 92nd Academy Awards.

Five Georgian films were nominated including Nino Zhvania’s ‘Parade,’ Mari Gulbiani’s documentary ‘Until Dad Returns,’ ‘Inhale and Exhale’ by Dimitri Tsintsadze, Gigisha Abashidze’s ‘Neighbors’ and ‘Shindisi’ by Dimitri Tsintsadze.

Shinisi starring Giga Pipinashvili, Dato Bakhtadze, Tamuna Abshilava and Mariam Jibladze, tells of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war and the heroes of Shindisi (a village located in the vicinity of the Russia-occupied Tskhinvali region, Georgia). Shindisi is a village where one of the crucial battles occurred between the Russian and Georgian troops on August 11, 2008. The Shindisi battle claimed the lives of 17 Georgian soldiers. Since 2008 Georgia has commemorated the Shindisi battle every year, and the Georgian government plans to build a monument in memory of those who lost their lives there. The cast includes Georgian actors as well as real Georgian soldiers with combat equipment.
