Award-winning director Dan Reed’s LEAVING NEVERLAND is a two-part documentary about two men who recount their experiences of being sexually abused by Michael Jackson. The documentary will World Premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival; and debut on HBO and Channel 4 this spring.

The Alliance of Women Film Journalists today announced the winners of the 2018 AWFJ EDA Awards in 25 categories. In the ‘Best Of’ section, this year’s big winner is “ROMA“, garnering five EDA Awards for Best Film, Best Non-English Language Film, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron.

Four new documentaries including Daughters of the Sexual Revolution: The Untold Story of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, the behind-the-scenes story of how the original Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders became a controversial pop culture phenomenon at the height of the Sexual Revolution have been acquired by Starz and will debut this year on the cable network. The documentary, Daughters of the Sexual Revolution: The Untold Story of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders premieres on Monday, January 14 at 9 PM ET/PT .

Films by Agnès Varda, Agnieszka Holland, Hans Petter Moland, Isabel Coixet and Wang Quan’an are among 11 films added to the Competition lineup of the 69th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival. Six more including The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, the feature film debut of Chiwetel Ejiofor, have also been selected for the program of the Berlinale Special.

The Athena Film Festival (AFF) at Barnard College will open its 2019 edition on Thursday, February 28, with the New York premiere of “Fast Color.” The film, directed by Julia Hart and written by Hart and Jordan Horowitz, stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a hero forced to run when her superhuman abilities are discovered. Years after abandoning her family, the only place she has left to hide is home. Lorraine Toussaint and David Strathairn co-star.

Sundance Film Festival rounds out this year’s 2019 program with additions to the Documentary Premieres and Special Events sections spotlighting two controversial personalities – Steve Bannon and Michael Jackson. The Festival will take place in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort January 24 to February 4, 2019.

Sisters of the Wilderness, the social impact feature-length documentary, which won best South African Feature Documentary at the Durban International Film Festival in July last year, and qualified for an Oscar consideration, will have its International Premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) on January 26, 2019.

The Favourite leads the nominations for the EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) in 2019 with nominations in 12 categories, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Make Up & Hair, Editing and Yorgos Lanthimos for Director. Olivia Colman is nominated for Leading Actress for her role as Queen Anne, and Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone are both nominated for Supporting Actress.
