Evil Does Not Exist, the new drama film by Drive My Car director Ryusuke Hamaguchi won the Best Film Award in the Official Competition of the 67th BFI London Film Festival

The 17th Other Israel Film Festival will take place in person in New York at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan and virtually November 2–9, 2023.

The Spanish drama The Rye Horn (O corno) set in the rural Galicia of the 70s, directed by Jaione Camborda from San Sebastian, won the Golden Shell at San Sebastian Festival’s 71st edition. This is the fourth year running that the Golden Shell has been won by a woman after Beginning (Dasatskisi) by Dea Kulumbegashvili in 2020; Blue Moon (Crai nou) by Alina Grigore in 2021 and The Kings of the World ( Los reyes del mundo0 by Laura Mora in 2022.

American Fiction directed by Cord Jefferson took the TIFF 2023 People’s Choice Award at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival which concluded on Saturday with the Closing Night screening of Thom Zimny’s Sly. Starring Jeffrey Wright, American Fiction is both a wickedly smart satire about the commodification of marginalized voices and a bittersweet portrait of an artist forced to re-examine the terms of his integrity.

Linh Tran’s debut film, the drama Waiting For The Light To Change stars Sam Straley (‘Jay’), who appeared in the Hulu series The Dropout, and as a series regular on The Kids Are Alright (ABC) and Welcome to Flatch (Fox), along with Eric Barrientos (‘Alex’), Qun Chi (‘Lin’), Joyce Ha (‘Kim’), and Jin Park (‘Amy’).

Poor Things directed by Yorgos Lanthimos won the Golden Lion for Best Film at Venice Film Festival. In the film starring Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, and Jerrod Carmichael, a young Victorian woman, Bella, is brought back to life by brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter.

Pawo Choyning Dorji’s The Monk and The Gun which World Premiered at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival has been selected by Bhutan as the official Academy Award nominee entry for for Best International Feature at the 2024 Academy Awards®

Adam Harbottle and Brian Hill’s Relentless Ride will make its Arkansas premiere as the Opening Night film for the 32nd edition of Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, to be held October 6 – 14, 2023.

“The Whirlpool,” a mystical thriller directed by Denis Kryuchkov, took the Grand Prix prize at the 8th Vienna Independent Film Festival. Austrian actor Wolfgang Cerny received the Best Actor prize for starring in the film on the life of Lyuba, who, on the verge of a nervous breakdown, seeks refuge in the Russian outback, where mysterious shamanic rituals challenge her perception of reality.

The European Film Academy revealed the five films nominated for LUX – The European Audience Film Award, presented by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas.

European Film Academy has selected 14 feature-length documentary films to comprise the Documentary Film Selection for the European Film Awards 2023. The European Film Awards, honorring the greatest achievements in European cinema, will be presented on December 9 in Berlin.
