New films directed by Manuel Abramovich, Christophe Honoré, Sebastián Lelio, Diego Lerman, Marco Martins, Laura Mora, Frelle Petersen, Hong Sang-soo, Ulrich Seidl and Petr Václav will compete in the Official Selection at San Sebastian Festival’s 70th edition, to run from September 16-24. The competition will also show the debut films from Genki Kawamura and Marian Mathias.

Berenshtein, Roman Shumunov’s film on the true story of Leonid Berenshtein, the last surviving member of the World War II partisan battalion that located Hitler’s secret weapon, won the Jury Award Best Feature at the 27th annual Stony Brook Film Festival. The German film Contra directed by Sönke Wortmann took the Audience Award Best Feature, and Nicole Rodenburg’s Glob Lessons won the Spirit of Independent Filmmaking Award.

The virtual reality production Gumball Dreams from the award-winning VR production company Ferryman Collective and Screaming Color, will make its international premiere as an Official Selection of the 79th Venice International Film Festival. Directed by Deirdre V. Lyons, Gumball Dreams won the SXSW Audience Award XR Experience Competition.

Nashville Film Festival (NashFilm) revealed four films selected for the 53rd annual event, taking place September 29 through October 5, 2022, marking the first film selections to be made public since the festival announced the Nashville premiere of The Return of Tanya Tucker as the opening night film.

Venice International Film Festival unveiled the selection of projects for Venice Immersive, the XR – Extended Reality section of the 79th edition of the festival. The 46th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF46) will open with two Hong Kong films – the world premiere of Philip Yung’s Where the Wind Blows, starring Aaron Kwok and Tony Leung Chiu-wai, and Ng Yuen-fai’s mega-budget sci-fi blockbuster Warriors of Future, starring Sean Lau and Louis Koo.
