The 28th annual Palm Springs International ShortFest announced its Festival juried and audience award winners and the Estonian film Sierra directed by Sander Joon won the Oscar® qualifying Best of the Festival Award. Loosely inspired by the director’s childhood, Sierra pulls us into the surreal car racing world.

Bentonville Film Festival announced the jury prize winners for their 8th annual Festival with Alika Tengan’s Every Day in Kaimuki awarded Best Narrative Feature and Gretchen Stoeltje’s Shouting Down Midnight took home the jury award for Best Documentary Feature. Other awards went to Georgia, by Jayil Pak for Best Short Film and Chiqui, by Carlos Cardona, won for Best Episodic.

Berlin International Film Festival issued a statement today, calling for the acquittal of filmmaker and 2022 festival juror Tsitsi Dangarembga who was apprehended in July 2020 at a protest in Harare, Zimbabwe. She has since been released on bail, but in a trial, now taking place before the Anti-Corruption Court in Harare, the decision will be made on whether to drop the case or seek a verdict.
