“A Choice of Weapons: Inspired by Gordon Parks” – closing night film of the 3rd annual Cinematters: NY Social Justice Film Festival In light of the global surge in Covid-19 cases, the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan (MMJCCM) will move to a Virtual festival for its 3rd annual Cinematters: NY Social Justice Film Festival, with dates remaining the same – January 13–17, 2022. Screenings will be shown via Eventive and exclusive Q+A’s will be hosted via Zoom. All Q+As will now take place at the times that in-person screenings would have been scheduled.

RIP. Finnish Documentary Filmmaker Jarmo Jääskeläinen Dead at 84
Jarmo Jaaskelainen (with umbrella), Tadzio Wosiński, Jacek Czerwiński, Michal Bukojemski (Krakow Film Festival) Krakow Film Festival announced that Finnish documentary filmmaker Jarmo Jääskeläinen died on 2 January 2022. He was 84 years old. He was to receive the most valuable statuette Dragon of Dragons of the Krakow Film Festival in May for his contribution to global documentary cinema.

Slamdance Film Festival 2022 Cancels In-person Event, Goes Virtual in Response to Omnicron
Following Sundance Film Festival’s announcement, Slamdance Film Festival 2022 is also responding to increasing concerns around the Omicron variant by canceling the in-person portion of the upcoming festival and moving completely virtual. The festival will now start a week later on January 27 and run through February 6, 2022.

Sundance Film Festival updated it COVID-19 health safety protocols as result of increasing concerns surrounding the omicron variant which is now confirmed in all 50 states roughly three weeks after it was first detected in the U.S. The festival is now requiring boosters for all in-person attendees and theaters will operate at reduced capacity with no eating or drinking permitted in theaters
