For its third year, Festival of Cinema NYC will screen over 120 films at the Regal UA Midway in Forest Hills, Queens. The Festival kicks off on Friday, August 2nd with the East Coast Premiere of Camilo Vila’s “5th of July” starring Jaleel White; and the East Coast premiere of “Quest” by director Santiago Rizzo, which features Lou Diamond Phillips, Dash Mihok and Betsy Brandt, closes the festival on Saturday, August 10th.

Sundance Institute announced today, that following the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, John Cooper, Director of the Sundance Film Festival, will step down and move into a newly-created Emeritus Director role . 2020 will mark his 30th Sundance Film Festival, and his 11th year as Festival Director.

The 22nd edition of the fiercely independent film festival, Dances With Films (DWF) concluded with the awards ceremony at the TCL Chinese 6 Theaters and awarded the Grand Jury Award to Gutterbug directed by Andrew Gibson. The Audience Awards went to Wade In The Water directed by Mark Wilson for feature film and to The Earthing Movie directed by Josh and Rebecca Tickell for feature documentary film.

The renowned New German Cinema New Talent Award goes to eligible up-and-comers in the New German Cinema section at Munich International Film festival (Filmfest München) and carries a purse of €70,000, making it one of the most lucrative newcomer awards in the German film industry. Writers, directors, and actors in the sidebar who have not made more than three feature films have a shot at the prize, as well as producers who have not made more than six feature films. Candidates from fourteen films qualify this year. All are world premieres at the festival.

CHASING THE MOON, directed by Robert Stone snagged the Audience Award for Best Feature at the AFI DOCS 2019. The Audience Award for Best Short went to ST. LOUIS SUPERMAN, directed by Smriti Mundhra and Sami Khan.

Following a special 20th anniversary screening of the classic rom com 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOUT, the inaugural Rom Com Fest announced the winners, with top jury honors going to Ann Lupo for IN REALITY (Jury Prize for Best Feature Film) and Erin Brown Thomas for REKINDLED (Jury Prize for Best Short Film).

Artistic Director Antonio Monda today made several announcements on the fourteenth Rome Film Fest, which will take place from October 17th to 27th 2019.

Director Lucrecia Martel (Zama, La mujer sin cabeza) will be the president of the International Jury of the Competition at the 76th Venice International Film Festival (August 28 – September 7, 2019), which will assign the Golden Lion for Best Film, as well as other official awards.

The Swiss director, screenwriter, Fredi M. Murer will be honored with the Pardo alla carriera at the 72 Locarno Film Festival. The tribute to the Swiss master will be accompanied by screenings of some of the landmark titles from his more than forty years of friendship with the Festival: Grauzone (1979), Wir Bergler in den Bergen sind eigentlich nicht schuld, dass wir da sind (1974), Höhenfeuer (1985) and Der grüne Berg(1990).

The 2019 Palm Springs International ShortFest announced its Festival juried award winners with the Romanian film The Christmas Gift, directed by Bogdan Muresanu, winning the Best of Festival Award. The prize for Best International Short went to Guaxuma directed by Nara Normande; and Manila is Full of Men Named Boy directed by Andrew Stephen Lee won for Best U.S. Short.

Locarno Film Festival announced the featured films selected for the Black Light Retrospective – an unprecedented overview of Black film in the 20th century. The festival will pay its own homage to the Retrospective with a Prefestival screening of Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing (1989) presenting the restored copy on the occasion of the film’s 30th anniversary.
