Magnolia Pictures announced they have acquired North American rights to JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI, a documentary about the life and work of master sushi chef Jiro Ono. The directorial debut of David Gelb, JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI had its world premiere at the Berlinale, and makes its North American premiere this Thursday, April 21st, at the Tribeca Film Festival. Magnolia is planning a theatrical release for the film later this year.

Vimooz.com’s own Francesca McCaffery had the chance to sit down with one of the most enigmatic, underrated actors in Hollywood-Zach Braff, who is promoting his intense new drama, “The High Cost of Living.”
The film, which was shot in Montreal, and features the brilliant Canadian actors Isabel Blaise, along with the handsome Patrick Labbe, follows the lives of two people as their futures collide after a tragic accident. Blaise plays Nathalie, a pregnant woman, and Braff plays a prescription drug dealer- Henry Welles, a huge leap from his comedic, long-running role as “JD” on the beloved TV series “Scrubs.”

The eighth annual Animation Block Party will run July 29-31 at Rooftop Films and Bam Cinematek, only in Brooklyn, NY. Animation Block Party is the largest animation festival on the East Coast, dedicated to screening the world’s best professional, student and independent work of all genres.

The 6th edition of the Sicilian Film Festival (SFF) of Miami Beach closed Wednesday, April 13, 2011 with the traditional dinner held at ‘Villa Viscuso’ – Miami Beach residence of Emanuele Viscuso, SFF President. Reflecting the quality of films and events presented this year, festival administration reported record attendance.

Prior to the screening of the Festival’s closing night film, Potiche, the RiverRun International Film Festival honored its 2011 Jury and Audience Award winners by handing out 22 awards to outstanding features and shorts.

The film Restless by Gus Van Sant will open Un Certain Regard, section of the 2011 Cannes Film Festival on May 12.
