  • Native Filmmaking Highlighted At 2011 Sundance Film Festival

    Sundance Institute announced the details for the 2011 Sundance Film Festival’s presentation of films by Native filmmakers and the annual Native Forum. In all, 11 Native communities will be represented: Tsilhqot’in, Métis, Ngāti Rangi, Atihaunui a Paparangi, Navajo Nation, Hopi, Laguna Pueblo, Iñupiaq, Taranaki/Ngati Tama Ngati Mutunga, Native Hawaiian and Māori.   • Sundance Institute, YouTube And Acura To Make 12 Short Films From 2011 Sundance Film Festival Available For Free On YouTube Screening Room

    Sundance Institute announced a collaboration with YouTube to make available, in the YouTube Screening Room, 12 short films from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival as well as eight classic short films from Institute alumni and earlier Festivals. Each YouTube Screening Room series is scheduled to run for a span of six weeks. The first launch date is January 6, 2011 and will continue to release through February 3, 2011.     Sundance Institute announced today the lineup of films selected to screen in the out-of-competition Premieres and new Documentary Premieres sections of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The Festival runs January 20-30 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.

    “2011 sees the majority of films in the Premieres section coming from outside the studios, illustrating that independent film is both robust and broadening its scope,” said John Cooper, Director of the Sundance Film Festival. “The decision to create a Documentary Premieres section was a natural evolution to shine a light on films with prominent filmmakers or anticipated subjects without distracting from documentaries in competition.
