Reeling, the second-oldest LGBTQ film festival in the world and a beloved Chicago cultural institution for more than 35 years, kicks off the 37th edition in the Fall with an exciting slate of 35 features and 13 shorts programs, nearly all of them Chicago premieres.
The 2019 Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival which ran from July 18th to July 28th, closed on Sunday night with “Before You Know It,” – a quirky Sundance favorite from director Hannah Pearl Utt, that infuses tenderness and complex emotion into the absurd misadventures of Rachel and Jackie, sisters living a dysfunctional life in New York City.
Lucio Castro’s directorial debut End of the Century (Fin de siglo), which had its world premiere at the Film at Lincoln Center and MoMA’s New Directors/New Films last spring, will have its Los Angeles premiere at the Outfest LGBTQ Film Festival this Friday, July 19.
The Brazilian gay social-realist drama Sócrates, – the debut feature by 29-year-old Brazilian-American filmmaker Alexandre Moratto, and winner of the Independent Spirit “Someone to Watch” award will make its New York premiere later this Summer. Sócrates will premiere Wednesday, July 31 at 7pm at the Screening Room at The Center (208 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10011) with a Q&A and reception with producer Ramin Bahrani immediately following the screening.
Mike Doyle’s new romantic comedy Sell By starring Scott Evans, Kate Walsh, Augustus Prew, Zoe Chao, Michelle Buteau, Christopher Gray, Colin Donnell and Patricia Clarkson will screen at the Outfest 2019 film festival on Saturday, July 20th, 2019 and Sunday, July 21st, 2019.
Wonder, a poignant short film about an 11-year old boy from the hood questioning the traditional gender system, makes its World Premiere at the Outfest Los Angeles Film Festival on Saturday, July 20, at 4:45 pm in House B at TCL Chinese Theater.

Late one night in 1984, drag queen Lady Bunny and a few friends drunkenly wandered from the Pyramid Club in New York’s East Village to Tompkins Square Park, staging an impromptu drag show in the band shell. This annual drag bacchanal, which would become known as Wigstock, signaled the end of summer in glamorous fashion for the gay community in NYC and lasted almost 20 years.
Over $40,000 in prizes were given to the winners of the 2019 Inside Out LGBT Film Festival Toronto with top honors going to Garin Nugroho for MEMORIES OF MY BODY for Inside Out Special Award for Innovation, Xiang Zi for A DOG BARKING AT THE MOON for Best First Feature, and Megan Wennberg for DRAG KIDS for Best Canadian Feature.

The 29th annual Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival (Inside Out), championing innovative LGBTQ filmmakers from across the globe, revealed its short film lineup. This year’s festival will take place May 23 to June 2, 2019.
