The full list of nominees for the 2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards were announced today at BAFTA’s headquarters. The King’s Speech received 14 nominations including Best Film and Outstanding British Film. Tom Hooper is nominated for Director, Colin Firth is nominated for Leading Actor and co-stars Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush are nominated for Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor.
“The Social Network”was the big winner at last night’s Golden Globes taking home the prizes for Best Motion Picture – Drama, along with Best Director – Motion Picture for its director, David Fincher, and Best Screenplay – Motion Picture for its writer, Aaron Sorkin, Colin Firth was was awarded Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for “The King’s Speech” and Natalie Portman received the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for her performance in Black Swan. Melissa Leo and Christian Bale took home the awards for Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture and Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for their performances in “The Fighter.”
The Bollywood Zee Cine Awards 2011 ceremony was recently held in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore and the film “Dabangg” was the big winner. The Bollywood film took home the top awards including Best Film, Most Promising Director, Best Music, Most Promising Debut Director and Best Screenplay.
The NAACP announced the nominees for the 42nd Annual Image Awards. Nominees for Outstanding Motion Picture include “For Colored Girls” (Lionsgate/34th Street Films), “Just Wright” (Fox Searchlight Pictures), “The Book of Eli” (Warner Bros. Pictures), “The Kids Are All Right” (Focus Features) and “Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too?” (Lionsgate).
The American Cinema Editors announced its nominees on Friday for the 61st annual Eddie Awards in film, TV and documentaries. The winners will be announced at the 61st annual ACE awards ceremony Feb. 19 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
“Inception” and “The Social Network” were the big winners with the Broadcast Film Critics Association, with ‘Inception’ picking up six trophies and “Network” grabbing four wins, including Best Director for filmmaker David Fincher. Unfortunately while “Black Swan” broke a Critics Choice Movies Award record for the most-nominated movie ever with 12 nods, Natalie Portman walked away with with the only award, the award for Best Actress.
Directors Guild of America announced the nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentaries for the year 2010. The winners will be announced at the 63rd Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 29, 2011 in Los Angeles.
Akunin (Villain) directed by Lee Sang-il was awarded the Kinema Junpo Award for Best Japanese Film in 2010, and the Korean film Breathless by Yang Ik-Joon, received the award for Best Foreign Film.
Denis Villeneuve’s “Incendies” triumphed over “Splice”, directed by Vincenzo Natali, and “Trigger”, directed by Bruce McDonald to win the 2010 Toronto Film Critics Association’s Rogers Best Canadian Film Award. “Incendies” is described as the epic adaptation of Wajdi Mouawad’s complex stage play about Quebec siblings who uncover their immigrant mother’s tortured history.

Balada Triste de Trompeta (The Last Circus) by Alex de la Iglesia led the nominations for the Spanish Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ 25th Goya Awards, with 15 nods; Pa Negre (Black Bread) by Agustí Villaronga followed closely with 13 nominations and Buried by Rodrigo Cortés with 10 nominations. Big surprise on the list, Ryan Reynolds was nominated for best actor for his performance in Buried.
The Vancouver Film Critics’ Circle named The Social Network the best film of the year, with Fincher as best director and Aaron Sorkin as the writer of the best screenplay. Colin Firth picked up the award for Best Actor for The King’s Speech while newcomer Jennifer Lawrence took the award for Best Actress for her performance in Debra Granik’s Winter’s Bone.
